A friendly afternoon for designers, makers and people with an idea they have not quite started yet. Hear honest stories, try a hands-on workshop and leave with a few new connections.
Saturday, 14 November 2026 · 14:00–18:00
The Workshop, 24 Foundry Lane, Bristol
£15 per person · Includes talks, workshop materials and refreshments.
Come curious
You do not need a business, a portfolio or a polished pitch. Bring a question, a notebook and a willingness to talk to someone new. We keep the group small so there is time for real conversation.
The programme
Doors open at 13:30. Arrive early for coffee and a look at the community project table.
14:00 / Welcome & introductions
Meet your hosts and the people at your table. We will share a few easy prompts to get the afternoon started.
14:30 / Three ideas, three honest stories
Local makers talk through the first version of their projects: what worked, what surprised them and what they would change.
15:30 / Make something together
Join a small group to sketch a response to a neighbourhood challenge. No specialist tools or experience needed.
16:45 / Conversations & next steps
Share what your group explored, swap contact details and stay for a relaxed drink. We finish at 18:00.
Meet your hosts
Hosted by Common Ground, a small community of people making useful things and helping others get started.
Maya Chen / Independent designer
Maya helps community organisations make their services easier to use. She will lead our workshop on turning a broad idea into a first experiment.
Sam Ellis / Maker & organiser
Sam runs a monthly repair evening and knows a thing or two about building a project with neighbours. He will guide the talks and open conversation.
A few useful details
The venue has step-free access and an accessible toilet. The nearest bus stop is a five-minute walk away; cycle parking is available outside.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely. Many guests do, and we build in introductions so you will not have to find your own way into a conversation.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and a notebook if you like. Materials, tea, coffee and vegetarian snacks are included. Let us know about dietary or access requirements when you register.
There is a place for your idea here.
We have space for 40 people. Email us with your name and the number of places you would like, and we will send booking details.
